Too Much Fish, Too Much Snow
A blizzard came through Moscow the other night. I didn’t mind the snow too much, but later, it started raining, making it slushy and gross on the streets.
Tuesday was pretty cold and nasty. Especially nasty because there was a lot of fish involved that day. I don’t know which idiot decided it would be a good idea to stick fish in some soup, but they need to stop. On fish days, you can walk into the school and smell the fish rotting in the boiling pot of soup. Everyone is always so astounded when I immediately turn down fish soup.
Later that night, I returned home and sat at the table, where a raw, bloody fish was set in front of me for dinner. My host bro set the fish in front of me in addition to some potatoes, and it really took everything in me to not cringe. I ended up telling him to take the fish back. I can’t do the fish. I have tried it to be nice, but I can’t do it. Russian fish is not appetizing. MAYBE if it was cooked, MAYBE if it was salmon, MAYBE if it wasn’t bloody and with shiny eyeballs, I would consider eating it. I just can’t do the smell, consistency, or the bones. It really is not my thing.
Parents Day
Wednesday was Parents Day and I was a nervous wreck! My classes had been pretty sub-par the past few times, and I did not want my lesson to tank in front of all of these parents. I came in prepared and went to work. The parents were there for an hour and a half, which was pretty rough, but I got through it. Apparently the parents were really pleased with what I was doing. They liked the material I was teaching and said I was a really good teacher. I even had a parent come to me and ask if I could privately tutor her daughter on weekends.
Gorky Park and Quality Time with Friends
Saturday was great! Jordan and I checked out the Gorky Park area, where they have a collection of bizarre statues and heads and stuff. It was pretty cool. Then we wandered around Red Square for a while, made our way over to Arbat Street so we could eat at the Hard Rock Café. I’m addicted to the fajitas, alright? Jordan was a good friend and humored me and my fajita cravings. Our waitress was named Ebola. Okay, it wasn’t really Ebola, but it sounded like that, so we called her Ebola behind her back. After eating, we met up with the rest of the group at Colby and Lydia’s place for a Halloween Party. It was awesome! We all brought some snacks and hung out. All eleven of us piled onto their bed to play scum. It was so much fun kicking back and relaxing with our group. I loved it.

Now I’m just hanging in there until my vacation. I am a little burned out on teaching right now and I need a break. I think it will be good for my students and me. Only four days until vacation…I can do this.
We are having a big Halloween party for our students on Thursday, and I’m kind of dreading it. I should have a better attitude about it, but there’s so much to do and so little time. We are all anxiously waiting for our vacations to start, so finding motivation is challenging.

On a happier note, the weather is going to be much warmer this week. It will be around 40º F all week, and I am extremely thankful for that. It’s also supposed to be fairly decent weather while we are on vacation. Granted, it’s probably going to rain the whole time, but at least we will be a little bit warmer.
In case I don’t have time to write before leaving on vacation, Happy Halloween! My next blog post will probably be a recap of St. Petersburg, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
Love you all,
Madison
